The Old Testament, for most Christians, is the first part of Christian Bibles. It contains the Pentateuch, and other series of historical books, wisdom and prophetic. In total, they numbered in the Old Testament 46 books, which added to the 27 New Testament form the Bible with their 73 biblical books.
The names of Bible and Old Testament (which presupposes the existence of a New Testament) were never used by Hebrew-speaking Jews, nor by some Christian denominations.
The Jews divide books of the Tanakh into three distinct groups: Torah (Law), Neviim (the Prophets) and Ketuvim (Hagiographa).
Jehovah's Witnesses Hebrew Scriptures prefer the term to refer to this collection of books.
